Grids for Instagram App Reviews

How the heck do you manually refresh without quiting the app, and starting it up again? How ridiculous is that? Where is the hot-key to toggle fullscreen. The lack of hot-keys, and the lack of developer refinements make it a joke that this app even cost money. However it does have a very clean UI. COME ON. GET IT TOGETHER!!!!

Love the app and look. I would love it if when a new image is posted to my feed it would auto roll down and show the recent photo at the top. Currently I get a notification of a new post and then I have to navigate over to the home icon to reload the new image. Tweetbot has this feature and they call it "pin to top". Would love to see that. Thanks, -L

This is a terrific app. The photos look great. Its easy to navigate. It is frustrating that you cannot upload photos to Instagram through the app. But this has nothing to do with developer. Its entirely and Instagram decision. One big problem for me is not being able to go back very far in the photos. My home feed currently stops at "11 hours ago.” Nothing before that is viewable. This is not good. Improvements I would like to see: 1. Would like if when you click the comment box you go directly to the comments and can begin typing. 2. Would also be helpful to have a back shortcut - command (or fn) + left arrow works in many apps AND a forward (two arrows, instead of one, at the top left of app) shortcut keys. 3. The space bar to page down one at a time would be great. and Shift space to page up. I highly reccomend this app. For $4 you cant go wrong!

The app looks as great as it does in the screenshots, but as other reviewers have said, it could really use support for hotkeys, and it would be great if the feed refreshed automatically. Currently, when you get a notification for a new image, you have to open the app and manually refresh the feed, and because there are not hotkeys, this means you actually have to click the home icon in the toolbar, which is more tedious than it might sound. It would also be nice to view even larger pictures, as the current maximum size is still fairly small on a 30” display. But perhaps the most annoying thing about Grids is that it alters the colors of every photo you view through it. Contrast is slightly higher, and the color temperature is a bit warmer, making yellows and reds more saturated. It’s a subtle difference that might be easy to miss, but view an image side by side with its downloaded version and it becomes glaringly obvious. I know a lot of Instagram photographers pay a lot of attention to these details in their photos, so this developer’s efforts to “touch up” everyone’s work for them is annoying and not appreciated, whatever their intentions might be.

Great update

The app was good, but now is even better. The new layouts are really cool. A lot of Bugs were fixed. The Full Screen view is better and smoother.

With this latest update while I really like the program for some reason this version keeps crashing on me a lot. I am not sure why as sometimes I’m not even in the app when it crashes. Hopefully it’s something common and it will be fixed. This is not enough to deter me from the app though as I really do like it. One suggestion I would like to see though is the ability to save your login so everytime the app starts you don’t have to login again. I run this on my own machine and am not worried about security so an option to save your login would be appreciated. Other than the crashes lately it’s a great app and I would recommend it.

Best Instagram client for Mac by far

Beautiful design and presentation. Breathtaking in full screen. I highly recommend it.

It’s a nice clean app and the automatic feed refresh is a welcome new feature. It’s absurd that the app places an icon in the menubar, though. It’s valuable real estate that shouldn’t be wasted on a social media app. There’s also no Keychain support so you have to enter passwords manually.

I really love this app! The way you can customize your view and create bookmarks is great. But how about folders for organizing bookmarks? How about themes to customize the look of Grids? But that’s it. Great app!

Great app, however it can mislead you when you use it due to bad error handling. Instagram allows 100 LIKES per hour for third party apps like this. Grids doesn’t handle this or tell you that you’ve surpassed your 100 LIKES so you’ll be clicking away liking content only to find that you’re not at all. Please add better handling of this, some indication of number of requests remaining would be really good. Otherwise pretty solid app.

This app use to work great, but since the update you get a warning EVERY time you like more than one image that you are limited to 100 per hour. After the first warning I get it, there is no reason for warning me EVERY SINGLE TIME I like a photo. annoying, App is now worthless. Save your money and look elsewhere.

Zhonart · 11 years ago

After the update the app improved and the stability went up significatly… however, now we have an issue that is even more annoying. Every single time I like a photo I get an error or “warning” message that I am liking photos too fast. The limit is to be 100 likes per hour but hell, I can’t even like 1 or 2 photos without getting prompted. The app is spenidng less and less time getting used...

Javi422 · 11 years ago

I used to love Grids but after the February 25, 2015 update it became unusable. First it started telling me that I was liking too fast (after my first like of the day!) and now it won’t let me like anything at all. I will be looking for an alternative since whatever they did to “upgrade” this broke it and made it completely useless.

Best Instagram client for Mac by far

This is by far the most beautiful Instagram app on mac. Very well designed and executed! This should be how Instagram is viewed on a desktop screen.

This is becoming an Outstanding Product

In the morning I am really enjoying this app. It’s really come a long way since it’s buggy beginnings.

Stopped working

Liked it at first, but Instagram has stopped communicating with it. SSL handshake failed.

Wanted a native way to view instagram photos when i’m on my computer and this does it perfectly. This is about as close to native as you can get. Definitly worth the $5.
